On the night of May 31, a drone attack triggered a fire at a private fuel storage facility in the Matveev-Kurgan district of Russia's Rostov region, according to statements from regional authorities. The facility serves local agricultural producers and suffered damage after debris from the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fell on the site.

Yury Slyusar, governor of Rostov region, reported that residents of nearby private homes were evacuated as a safety precaution, but no casualties have been confirmed. Emergency services, including a fire-fighting train, are actively engaged in extinguishing the blaze.

"Residents of nearby private homes have been evacuated to ensure safety. There is no threat to people. Emergency services are working at the scene, and a fire train has arrived to combat the fire," the governor noted in a Telegram post. He also confirmed that in the settlement of Matveev Kurgan, the attack caused damage to an apothecary, two shops, and a vehicle, with no injuries reported.

Impact on Regional Fuel Infrastructure

According to Ukrainian OSINT sources and Telegram channels, the strike specifically targeted the local oil depot. Video footage shared on social media shows a significant fire following the attack. Local reports also described an "oil rain" phenomenon caused by the damaged fuel reservoir.

Simultaneously, authorities in Saratov region confirmed damage to civil infrastructure after a similar drone strike. Governor Roman Busargin indicated preliminary reports of damage but did not specify the affected objects. However, independent OSINT channels report that the attack hit the Saratov Oil Refinery, a facility that has been targeted multiple times in prior incidents.

Numerous photos and videos purportedly from local residents show the aftermath of a fire at the refinery. The OSINT channel world.militares has also reported on this incident, highlighting its strategic impact on the regional fuel supply chain.

"The attacks have resulted in significant damage to fuel storage and refining infrastructure, potentially impacting regional energy logistics and agricultural supply chains," commented an industry analyst.

While no casualties have been reported in either region, the incidents highlight the vulnerability of critical fuel infrastructure to drone-enabled strikes amid ongoing regional tensions. The fires and damage could affect supply chain reliability and have financial repercussions for the private operators and the broader fuel distribution networks serving the agricultural sector.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess the full extent of damage to the infrastructure, with emergency response efforts ongoing. Investors and stakeholders are advised to watch for further updates regarding operational impacts and potential financial losses resulting from the attacks.
