In celebration of the 250th anniversary of United States independence, the US State Department announced plans to issue a special series of passports featuring the portrait of current President Donald Trump. These editions will be available exclusively through the passport agency in Washington, D.C., while standard passports will continue to be issued at other locations or via online applications.

Special Edition Passport Design and Distribution

The interior front cover of the special edition passport will prominently display President Trump’s face alongside his signature in gold lettering. The back cover will feature a segment of John Trumbull's famous painting "Declaration of Independence," symbolizing the nation’s founding moment. The exact number of these commemorative passports to be issued remains undisclosed by the State Department.

Traditionally, the inner cover of US passports includes artwork by American painter Edward Percy Moran depicting Francis Scott Key, author of the national anthem, inspired by the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. This new design represents a departure reflecting the anniversary's significance and current administration.

"These special edition passports mark a unique tribute both to the nation’s history and to the current leadership at a milestone anniversary," a State Department representative said.

Related Commemorative Financial and Cultural Initiatives

Complementing this initiative, President Trump's signature is set to appear on newly issued $100 bills released for the anniversary, marking the first time in 165 years that the signature of the sitting president replaces that of the US Treasurer on this currency denomination.

Further commemorations include the approval and upcoming release of a 24-karat gold coin featuring President Trump posed with clenched fists and the word "Liberty." The US Commission of Fine Arts granted approval despite controversies, especially after the Trump administration replaced all commission members in October 2025 with individuals supportive of the president.

Additional symbolic gestures include renaming the US Institute of Peace after President Trump and rebranding Washington’s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the "Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Memorial Center." The administration has also announced plans to commission two new naval vessels named after Trump, equipped with advanced weaponry.

These financial and cultural moves underscore the administration's efforts to cement President Trump’s legacy ahead of the nation’s significant 250-year milestone.
