Russian Strikes Kill 20 Across Ukraine, Damage Commercial Assets
Attacks on several Ukrainian cities killed civilians and damaged railway, warehouse, retail, manufacturing and transport infrastructure.

Russian strikes across Ukraine on Oct. 29 killed at least 20 people and injured dozens more, while damaging railway, warehouse, retail, manufacturing and transport assets in several major cities. The attacks created a new toll of casualties and physical destruction that Ukrainian authorities, municipal administrations and affected organizations will need to assess.
In Chernihiv, two 15-year-old girls were killed when a Banderoль, or S8000, munition struck the city center. The weapon is described as a compact hybrid of a cruise missile and a jet-powered attack drone. At least 25 people were injured, according to regional military administration head Viacheslav Chaus.
Four children were among those injured: a 10-month-old girl, a 10-year-old girl, and boys aged 16 and 17. Chaus said two children, a brother and sister, were in serious condition. Eight people remained hospitalized, while the others received treatment at the scene or were being treated as outpatients.
“It was a strike on an ordinary street. Houses, shops and cars were damaged — there was no military purpose,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.
Chernihiv declared Oct. 30 a day of mourning. Authorities did not provide a monetary estimate for the damage to homes, stores and vehicles.
Railway, warehouse and production sites hit
A drone strike on the railway station in Dnipro killed at least 14 people and injured another 14 on Oct. 29. The reported attack placed civilian casualties alongside damage risks to a major transport facility, although officials did not disclose the extent of physical losses at the station or any operational impact.
In Kremenchuk, three residents were killed and 25 were injured in a Russian attack, according to Ukraine’s emergency service. No financial assessment of the destruction was included in the initial report.
Two men, aged 41 and 66, were injured in Zaporizhzhia and received medical care. Emergency officials said four passenger cars and an open area caught fire. A warehouse building, four cars and four buses were also damaged. The statement did not specify whether the four burned cars were included among the four vehicles listed as damaged.
Later on Oct. 29, a Russian missile struck Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district, the emergency service said. Fires broke out inside a production building and on adjacent land, covering a combined area of 400 square meters. At another location, remnants of various materials burned across 80 square meters. Two trucks were also damaged.
Officials did not state why the explosion caused the fire or identify what had been stored in the production building. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the Slobidskyi district was struck with a Banderoль munition. No estimate was given for the value of the affected building, materials or vehicles.
Kyiv reports warehouse and retail damage
Kyiv became the target of a Russian ballistic-missile attack on the evening of Oct. 29, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. He said warehouse buildings were hit in the Darnytskyi district, causing a fire.
In the Dniprovskyi district, missile debris burned in the courtyard of a residential complex. At another address, a blast wave shattered windows in an apartment building. Klitschko said windows at a separate residential property and cars parked in its courtyard were also damaged. He later reported that a shop building near the residential complex where debris fell had been partially destroyed.
Kyiv’s city military administration said one person was killed in the Russian attack. The reports did not identify the owners or operators of the warehouses and shop, disclose the value of inventory exposed to the fires, or provide an aggregate estimate of property damage.
Competing accounts of the attacks
Earlier on Oct. 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily address that intelligence indicated Russia was preparing to attack Ukraine again with ballistic missiles.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Telegram that Russian forces had carried out drone strikes during the day against Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels that it said were being used in the interests of Ukraine’s armed forces. The ministry also reported a strike on a temporary Ukrainian troop deployment point in the Kharkiv direction and said Russian forces had identified and destroyed enemy FPV-drone control points in the Dnipropetrovsk direction.
The Russian statement did not address the specific civilian casualty figures reported by Ukrainian authorities in Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Kyiv. The initial disclosures from Ukrainian officials focused on deaths, injuries, fires and identifiable physical damage, with no consolidated financial figure for repair costs, destroyed assets or wider economic disruption.
