Putin’s Alleged Children Receive Western-Language Tutoring Amid High Annual Costs
Investigation reveals foreign tutors teaching English and German to Vladimir Putin’s presumed children, with annual expenses reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In a detailed investigation, the "Sistema" project uncovered that Vladimir Putin’s alleged children with Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva are being taught English and German by foreign governesses and tutors from Western countries. From 2017 to 2026, around 20 such specialists from the UK, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, and Ireland were engaged in the family’s language education.
Financially, the cost of these educational services is substantial. In January 2026 alone, payments to three governesses reportedly amounted to no less than 3.5 million rubles (approximately $45,000), highlighting the significant investment in providing high-level foreign language instruction.
Employment and Financial Structures Behind the Tutoring
Official documents show that the foreign tutors were registered as "lead translators" at the Institute of Professional Retraining of the International Medical Center "Sogaz." This classification facilitated their acquisition of visas and work permits under Russia's "highly qualified specialists" category, essential for their legal employment.
Over the past nine years, the hiring of these foreign language teachers was managed by Alina Kabaeva’s cousins, Olesya Fedina and Ekaterina Golovacheva. Official records refer to the children only as "wards," without any direct mention of Putin or Kabaeva. One 2019 document references an "Ivan Fedin," although this name does not match Olesya Fedina’s son’s name, indicating possible coded references or pseudonyms.
"In 2019, Olesya Fedina instructed governesses that by age four, Ivan should be fully immersed in a 'language bath,' with his English sounding like that of a literate European," the investigation stated.
Previous investigations by other journalists suggested that Putin’s sons with Kabaeva might be named Ivan (born in 2015) and Vladimir (born in 2019), which aligns with some of the names and timelines referenced.
Living Conditions and Restrictions for Tutors
The tutors reportedly lived alongside the wards at the presidential residence in Valdai, a secluded area requiring strict health monitoring and regular medical screenings for the staff. During their work, the tutors were prohibited from introducing any religious, political, or ideological views, as well as from discussing topics related to sexual education or LGBTQ+ issues.
The investigation further notes that similar high standards and immersion strategies were applied to the teaching of German, ensuring that the children achieved fluency comparable to native speakers in multiple languages.
Attempts to obtain comments from the majority of the tutors, as well as from Fedina, Golovacheva, representatives of Kabaeva, and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, were reportedly unsuccessful, as all parties declined to respond.
This investigation sheds light on the considerable financial and organizational resources devoted to the private education of Putin’s presumed children, reflecting a broader pattern of discreet yet high-cost arrangements within elite circles in Russia.
